The Be Kind People Project initiates positive social change in schools, to improve the learning environment for enhanced student achievement, to significantly ameliorate unwanted behavior issues-often manifested or interpreted as bullying, and to provide a comprehensive and culturally relevant framework for responsible and enduring youth development (http://www.thebekindpeopleproject.org/, 2015).

Ways we celebrate and encourage kindness:
|
Be Kind Cards- Students are given Be Kind Cards when they are caught going above and beyond. These can be given by any staff member. Students take their card to the office to be put in a drawing. Every Wednesday, cards are drawn. Those whose names are called receive a small prize, a positive phone call home from administration, and their picture on our Horizon Facebook page.
Class meetings- At least once a week, we meet as a class and discuss concerns that we might have in the classroom and then students share celebrations with each other Also during class meetings, we discuss the Be Kind trait of the month and work on ways to solve our problems in a positive, productive way. Postcards- Students who continually go above and beyond showing the Be Kind traits may receive a postcard from the teacher, thanking him or her for great behavior or outstanding citizenship. Awards- Once per quarter, we award two students from our class who embody the Be Kind initiative with a special certificate in our award ceremony. |
